Single tooth implant replacement is one of the most popular types of implant dentistry. Single dental implants are used to replace a fallen or infected tooth after injury or decay. Losing a tooth after an accident, means you can now have the missing tooth replaced immediately. A missing tooth can be embarrassing when visible and also pose problems with your bite. This generally stands in the way of your confidence and will prevent you from enjoying your favourite foods.
A single tooth can be replaced in two ways. One way is by using a bridge, which does not have an implant, but only a crown. A crown is the false prosthetic tooth that sits over the implant. If you suffer from extreme dental phobia, then a bridge which has two hollow teeth on either side of a solid dental crown, anchor the false tooth by sitting over your existing teeth. This procedure does involve altering or shaving off the outer surface to make room for the hollow crowns. Recovery is almost immediate, and the entire procedure is completed in just two visits.
An entire tooth can be replaced with a standalone implant and crown fixed together. This method does not require your healthy adjoining teeth to be damaged. Standalone implants are anchored to your jaw bone where it will fuse and provide stability to the crown that will sit over it. The entire process takes about three months to complete, giving the jaws time to heal.
